RIDING AND TRAINING SERVICES
If you have taken lessons, tried different approaches, and still feel like progress is inconsistent – you are not alone.
Most riders are willing to work hard.
But they are rarely taught how to recognize what is actually working.
So they follow instructions, try different trainers, put in the effort…
…and still don’t get clear, consistent results.
What I focus on
My work is not about pushing you harder or giving you more exercises.
It’s about helping you understand what is happening when you ride – so you can make better decisions and create real progress over time.
That means learning to recognize:
- when your horse is working with you – or compensating
- when something truly improves – or only looks better
- what to change, why – and HOW to actually do this.
The rider matters – at every level
One of the most common reasons riders get stuck is the following.
As riders become more experienced, they often stop working on their own basics.
The focus shifts entirely to the horse.
But your position, balance, and coordination still influence everything your horse does.
Even at a high level.
Just like a professional dancer still returns to basic exercises every day, riding technique also needs continuous refinement.
Not because you are a beginner – but because small changes in the rider create big changes in the horse.
This is an essential part of my teaching, and one that is often overlooked, unfortunately.
What this leads to
When things start to make sense, training becomes more consistent.
You get:
- a horse that moves more freely and with less resistance
- clearer communication between horse and rider
- progress that builds over time — instead of starting over.
Every horse deserves good riding – and every rider deserves good answers
I work with riders and horses of all levels, breeds, ages and disciplines.
Sessions are adapted to both horse and rider, with a focus on:
- building correct foundations
- improving rider balance, seat, and coordination
- developing understanding, not just technique.
Whether you are working towards competitions or simply want a better everyday ride,
the goal is the same: clear, correct, and sustainable progress.
Lessons, consultations and clinics are available in English, Norwegian, Dutch and German.
Norway: In-person lessons and training
Private riding lessons are available in person for clients based in Norway.
Lessons typically run 45 to 60 minutes, depending on what we are working on. (If it’s too much for the horse and/or the rider – we stop.)
A first lesson is often longer. There is a lot to go through when we are getting to know horse and rider together, discussing challenges and wishes, checking tack etc.
I can come to you if you are within reasonable traveling distance.
There is also a limited number of lesson slots available at Raaken Farm for clients who prefer to come here. We have an outdoor arena, which works well in good weather.
At Raaken Farm, it can be possible to use one of our horses for lessons/training. Contact me to discuss the options.
What I offer in person:
- Private lessons at your place or at Raaken Farm, with your horse or one of ours (limited availability)
- Group lessons at your place
- Riding and training your horse (if capacity)
- Lungeing training
- Join-up and groundwork sessions
- Assessment of, and advice on horse and rider combinations.
World-wide: Online lessons and consultations
Distance should not be a barrier to good instruction. Online lessons work well for riders who want structured feedback on their riding: you ride, I watch and coach in real time via video call.
I also offer online video consultations for situations where you need a second opinion or a fresh perspective.
What I offer online:
- Riding lessons
- Training questions and troubleshooting
- General riding assessment and advice
- Second opinion before buying/leasing a horse.
Online lessons and consultations are available in English, Norwegian, Dutch and German.
Norway: Clinics and seminars
Clinics and seminars are a great and cost-effective way to learn. We offer clinics and seminars on a number of topics related to horses, riding and horse management.
These can be at Raaken Farm or at your place.
If you are looking for something both fun and useful, what about a Horse Tea? This is a high tea at Raaken Farm, where we discuss horses and riding while enjoying a spread of drinks and snacks. Also great as a gift idea!
Available clinics and seminars:
- Classical riding principles
- Lungeing
- Join-up and ground work
- Horse Tea
- And, of course, about hoof care. (See Hoof Care Services page.)
Clinics and seminars are available in English, Norwegian, Dutch and German.
Are you wondering if this is right for you and your horse?
My teaching works well for riders who are willing to think about what they are doing and work systematically – whatever their level, age or discipline.
You do not need an expensive horse or a competitive background.
What you do need is a genuine interest in understanding your horse and your riding.
Also, you will progress a lot quicker if you practice between our lessons.
If you are not not sure or if you have any questions, just get in touch. Then we can figure out if we are a good match.
My riding and training services are not suitable for you if:
- your horse has medical issues and your veterinarian has not given the go-ahead;
- you are only looking for a quick fix for a certain problem or training issue (sometimes improvements come quickly – but they should never come at a cost to your horse’s long-term health, soundness and willingness);
- you are not willing to look at your own riding position, balance and technique.

Interested in hoof care as well?
Riding and hoof care are different areas, but both require the same thing: understanding what is happening over time.
